Ratings: ★★★★☆

The Forbidden City in Beijing, China is one of the most historical value places around the world. It not only has witnessed the old ancient past but also became the channel for the new generation to remember what has happened in the past.

This film which is produced in 2016, is mainly telling the stories of a group of people who works in the Forbidden City. Most of the time they just stay in the place where the tourists will never know where it is. Their job scope is to do historical relics conservation. But what they do is actually more than what we know. There are many departments among them which stand for bronze, wood, silk, paper, clock, sewing......etc. Each of the department has their own expertise in each specific field.

The film is broken into three episodes, but you will never get enough of it. For me, I enjoy watching historical especially when it comes to something that I can relate to. A few years ago, I have the chance to capture the beauty of this Forbidden City with real eyes and the view is really breathtaking. As a Chinese, although i am not even born in China, I always feel proud of what our ancestors have done. It is not only an old building that left, but there are so many things that they want their descendants to remember.

I personally appreciate what this group of people is doing right now. Like what they have mentioned in the film "It's not only a conservation, but it's a process for us to communicate with the past." Some people may wonder, how long to fully restore a relic? The answer is "it depends" but according to what has mentioned in the film, it is not a short time job. Some take few months, and some may take few years or several decades. It is not surprising that one person cannot even finish restoring one single relic until he/she retires.

Every year, the Forbidden City is having recruitment for those who have the passion to work in the conservation department. Since the film is released, there are more than twenty thousand people apply for the job. It can be concluded that the production of the film is somehow gaining attention and successfully awareness for the people to aware in historical relics conservation.
